Athletics
For over 100 years now, many successful student athletes have called the Antelope Valley High School campus home. This proud tradition lives on as Antelope Valley Athletics look to continue their winning ways well into the next century. AVHS graduates have gone on to attend some of the most highly ranked college athletic programs across the nation and strive to compete at the highest level in both sports, and life.
Currently our Lopes have their sights set on future Golden League and CIF titles and beyond. Lopes are contenders, not just on the field, but in the classroom. Please support our student athletes as they strive to represent Antelope Valley in tradition, athletics, education, and beyond…

Lancaster, CA- Antelope Valley High School will be hiring James Vondra as the head coach of the football team pending board approval. The Antelopes will be hiring the 2017 and 2021 CIF coach of the year after an extensive search through a variety of candidates. “James Vondra has 31 years of coaching experience in the Antelope Valley.” According to Athletic Director Jason Chronister, “Our Alumni expect championships and Coach Vondra is the perfect fit for our student athletes at Antelope Valley High School. He will not only bring championships, but build students of high character.”
Vondra was the head coach at Littlerock and Quartz Hill High School for 18 years. At Quartz Hill he was a CIF Finalist in 2016, CIF Champion in 2017, Regional Runner-up in 2017, and CIF Champion, Regional Champion, and State Runner-up in 2021. He has college experience at Antelope Valley College. He is currently serving as the President of the Southern California Football Coaches Association and is also on the CIF Football Advisory Board.
Coach Vondra will be taking over a team that took 4th in the Golden League in 2023. The Antelope Valley High School administrative team is very excited about the vision that Coach Vondra has for the AV Football Program.
